Everything in life is a choice. Everything we do or say, situations we stay in or leave, how we take care of ourselves, our habits, and often even our mood is a choice. We are the creator of our lives and we create our experiences through choices we make.
Choice does not have to mean exclusion.
Often, we feel stuck because we feel trapped between two choices, neither of which we want. Either we have to give something up that we want, or we have to take on something that we don’t want. These situations can be disempowering as they occur as a lose-lose scenario. It occurs that either way, it has to be a sacrifice.
😟 “I can be happy, or I can stay in this job.”
🤔 “I can work out and have alone time, or I can spend time with my family.”
😥 “I can be in this loving relationship, or I can cultivate my friendships.”
😦 “I can find a great apartment, or I can keep my beloved dog.”
🥺 “I can have a family, or a great career.”
While it may not be immediately obvious when you’re in it, it doesn’t have to be this way.
Life is abundant and full of limitless possibilities.
You have immense ability, and anything is possible if you set your mind to creating it.
What if we replaced the “or’s” with “and’s”? “Or” is a choice. “And” is a choice.
Why not? What would be possible? What shows up?
🤗 “I can be happy, and I can stay in this job!”
☺️ “I can work out and have alone time and I can spend time with my family!”
🥰 “I can be in this loving relationship, and I can cultivate my friendships!”
🥲 “I can find a great apartment, and I can keep my beloved dog!”
😁 “I can have a family, and a great career!”
Where in your life are you perceiving a situation with an “or”? A place where you feel stuck because with either option you feel you will lose?
Write your situation out as an “or statement” as in the examples above. Then replace “or” with “and” and allow yourself to believe it’s possible. How does that feel? Exciting? Hopeful?
It might take something to create what you want. You may need to think outside the box, find new resources, shift how you see a situation, or ask for help.
It may not be easy, but it all starts with stating it as possible.
Once you know it’s possible, set your mind to it and do what you need to do. Soon you will be enjoying it all, with the limits that once occurred as truths left behind in the past.
