I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE FIND HAPPINESS AS OTHERS HAVE HELPED ME

My Why

When I started my veterinary career in 1998, I was an eager, bright eyed, new graduate ready to go out and make a difference. I worked hard, studied hard, had great mentors and there was so much that I loved… the client relationships, the intellectual challenges, fun coworkers and of course, the animals.

It did not take long to realize that life in veterinary medicine is not always easy.

Life in vet med is difficult to understand unless you have experienced it. There are highs and lows as with anything else but unfortunately the lows can go very low. We relish the cute animals, grateful clients, laughs, successful cases, and just knowing that we made a difference. Those are truly wonderful.

But then there are the demands to be perfect and to know so much. Pile on criticism from clients (sometimes public), financial stress, exhaustion, coworker conflicts, self-shame when things go wrong and the heartbreak of euthanasia and you have the perfect recipe for burn out, depression, and anxiety.

Joy

 Journey to Happiness

In 2008 I began my passionate study of transformation, self-development, and spirituality. I struggled balancing my career, practice ownership, motherhood, self-care, marriage and finances and I wanted to find satisfaction and joy in all areas of my life.

It’s an ongoing journey, but I am proud to now live a happy life of my design. I am so grateful to all the speakers, authors, and coaches I have worked with, and it is my time to give back. It has not always been easy but having the awareness and tools to create my life and shift the perspective through which I view things has been invaluable.

I believe that living a happy, fulfilling, and balanced life in veterinary medicine or any career is possible.

My Background

My interest in mental health and well-being has been present for as long as I can remember. During college, I worked for a crisis hotline and earned my B.S in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 1992. I left psychology when I decided to pursue veterinary medicine, but that interest never faded. I enrolled at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1998.

I worked as an associate veterinarian in various capacities until 2007 when I ventured into entrepreneurship and opened my own practice. Through many successes and failures, my 13 years of practice ownership taught me a lot about leadership and business. This experience provides me a clear perspective of the challenges that many of my colleagues face.

I am also honored to serve as the chair of the Wellness Committee for the NH Veterinary Medical Association. Through this role I share personal development related information and concepts with the members.

Rediscover Joy…

This year I have launched my transformational coaching and seminar company where I help professional women and veterinarians rediscover joy and happiness in their life and career.

I partner with clients to elevate self awareness and an understanding of energy, leaving them free to move past circumstances and internal barriers into happiness and a life that they love. As a coach, I am the mirror that allows my clients to look within themselves and discover what their best answers are and to clear blocks that get in their way.

I am excited to offer one-on-one private coaching as well as group coaching, seminars, and workshops. I can tailor all group work to the specific audience needs in a corporate setting, conference, or meeting.

My Life

I live in beautiful New Hampshire, and I love to stay active. I am in partnership with a man who makes me laugh and brings balance in reminding me to slow down sometimes. I am an enthusiast of couples dancing, primarily west coast swing and I also enjoy a regular practice of hot yoga. I love to ski, walk through the woods on trails near streams and sit on the dock at the lake watching the loons. My greatest joy in life is my daughter who amazes me daily as she develops into an incredible young woman. Together we love to cuddle our dogs Annie, Jackson, and Phoebe.
