Gratitude & 3 Tips for a Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

On this special day, I want to express my sincere gratitude for everyone in my life. My family, friends, coaching community, coworkers at all of the wonderful veterinary practices I’ve been visiting, people in my community and everyone else whose life touches mine in some way. I am fully aware that without amazing people around me, my life would not be what it is.

I know that while this day can be happy and fun, it can also present challenges for a lot of people. Being with extended family can bring up old annoyances and triggers. Being with or not being with certain individuals may not match your idea of how this day should go.

Here are 3 tips that may help make your day as happy as it can be.
At the end is a short meditation practice to help set your energy in a place of love.

Tip #1 ~ Focus on Gratitude

A focus on gratitude will keep your energy up. Gratitude is one of the highest vibrational frequency emotions. In this space it becomes difficult to be upset by much. It is ALWAYS possible to find something to be grateful for.

If someone or something is annoying you, let it go and be grateful that you have friends or family to be with, that you’re not homeless, that you are free, that you are healthy or whatever comes to mind. The shift of your focus off of that person or circumstance and onto yourself can change your experience in an instant.

Tip #2 ~ Let Go of Ideas of How Things “Should” Be

All disappointments are preceded by an expectation. People will be people and they will do what they do. Be responsible for your expectations because they are only created by you.

Let go of expectations that people will be the same or different than how you remember. Allow people to just be, exactly how they are and exactly how they aren’t. You may be surprised to enjoy a conversation you didn’t think was possible. Come in with fresh eyes and stop “shoulding” all over people. The day might be surprisingly fun.

Tip #3 ~ Connect to Love

Who you are in your essence is Love. Nothing more, nothing less. You have the power to connect to that energy in any moment. In that space, you will find it easier to enjoy people and release judgement.

Once done, you will be able to connect back to this energy any time you choose.

🧡 Find a quiet place. Close your eyes.
🧡 Take 2 full, slow breaths deep into your belly. Slowly release the breath.
🧡 Now imagine a moment in life where you experienced complete, deep, unconditional love.
(It may be a moment as a child with a grandparent or relative or as an adult with a child or partner.
It may be one of those deep, intense cuddle moments with a pet).
🧡 With this moment in mind, focus intently on it. Feel the love. Feel the energy.
🧡 What does it feel like in your body? Allow that feeling to be present fully in you again now. Focus on it. Memorize it.
🧡 Sit in this space for a few moments.
🧡 When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes.

Throughout the day, if you have a tough moment, close your eyes or just look off for a moment and connect back into that memory.

For me, I envision the connection of my lips to my dog Annie during “snout kisses”. When I connect in to the curve of her snout and her face, and we just stay there, touching, deep in love. That feeling is magical and I have memorized it over and over.

In any moment I just imagine her face and the feel of her fur and I’m right back in that energy.

I hope these tips help you to have a wonderful day!

Happy Thanksgiving! 💕
